How to Create Success

I made this movie for all of my loyal followers because I felt like I needed to share some of the things that have helped me be successful to help YOU become succesful.

It’s about 8 minutes long.

Don’t start watching it unless your intent is to finish it, ie. If you’ve got the attention span of a blonde cheerleader in grade 10 math class, click away now, you won’t enjoy it.

If you have to set aside the time, do so, it’s worth it.

Otherwise, check it out.

And when you watch the movie, you don’t have to take everything I say and preach it as gospel, but think about how it would affect your life if you adopted the strategies I share.

——————- MOVIE BACKGROUND ——————-

I used to be a big personal development/self-help junkie. You know, Tony Robbins, Jack Canfield, Stephen Covey, etc…

My brother got me into the stuff after I graduated from University in 2004.

I read all the books, listened to thousands of hours of audios in my car and attended workshops and more.

The very first thing they teach you about is goal setting.

In 2006, I set the big goal of training a UFC champ.

Like they taught me, I didn’t judge myself and say, "That’ll never happen."

I set the goal. But more importantly, I began to work on achieving this goal.

Here’s what happened next AFTER I’d set this goal:

  1. Started working with my first mixed martial artist in April 2006 (Jeff Joslin) – I approached him with my ideas
  2. That same year, Jeff won the APEX world welterweight title and fought in the UFC
  3. Started training a half dozen local fighters in my home gym in parent’s basement
  4. Constant study and testing of various strength and conditioning methods with my MMA athletes
  5. Published the Ultimate MMA S&C guide in April 2008 – to date it’s been used by over 600 athletes around the world
  6. Started and closed a 1500 sq. ft general fitness facility because it wasn’t my passion (Apr-Sept 2009)
  7. Realigned myself with my passion and set the goal of cornering a UFC fighter in January 2010
  8. Cornered Claude Patrick for his UFC debut and sick victory via guillotine in June 2010

And I’ve got some big stuff in the works, which should be ready by September that will get me even closer to my ultimate goal.

Please leave your favourite inspirational quotes, tidbits of wisdom and other tips on success below. I’d really appreciate it!

- Eric

I enjoyed watching your video and especially liked your rhythmic and focused use of breath-work throughout. Here is a quote I use and inspire with:
Obstacles are those frightful things when you take your eye off the goal.

Thanks for the good words Colleen – I didn’t realize the breathing until you pointed it out.

Thanks for the wisdom and inspiration Eric. You’ve helped more people than you could know!

Goal setting is essential. It’s also important to set timelines to achieve them. Break bigger goals into smaller manageable chunks, so you can progress towards your goal. Also prioritise your goals as you are bound to have more than one. Don’t forget to review your progress every few weeks/months.
I discovered goal setting when I was 26 and at the time I was in debt and unemployed (and recently dumped). I spent a lot of time in the library and read up on this stuff and completely turned my life around. Within 12 months my career was back on track and my debts were paid off. The personal life took a bit longer to sort out :-)
It’s important to have a sense of humour and a sense of perspective as well though; don’t get tunnel vision and become a prick

Awesome story – and *great* advice about not getting tunnel vision and becoming a prick – I must say that I could’ve learned that sooner (and could still learn it a bit better – just ask my fiancee).

well Eric i just want to say that you are truly an inspiration. i too have a similar goal. i want to train mma athletes. i’ve wanted to do it since i can remember. i got a little side tracked but i’m back on track. it’s too true that if you have a dream and don’t actually take the steps toward it you will lose your way and find yourself doing things completely unrelated. This is less of a quote, more of a phrase of wisdom:

“Dreamer’s dream whilst successful people make plans.”

Don’t just think about what you want. Make a plan and take the steps to get there.

Eric, what a cool video.

My father is my hero, and he always says that success based on integrity is what survives the long term.

I think you have already made a strong beginning, considering the content that you put out.

Thanks again

Zak
