Halloween is around the corner and my fiancee and I are trying to figure out our costumes for the inevitable Hallowe’en bash.
She’s keen on being an Avatar, which would be funny since she would be the shortest Avatar ever (she’s just barely over 5′ tall).
I’m not totally sold on the idea yet.
I’m still kinda attached to my Game of Death Bruce Lee costume (pics coming soon).
But the talking about the movie and the fact that it was the first of the new genre of 3D flicks that are going to be assaulting our senses in a theatre near you reminded me about an important training concept I had to share with you.
Yes, I’m always thinking about training.
Anyway, training in THREE DIMENSIONS is necessary if you want to be a powerful and explosive mixed martial artist.
This applies not only to punches but also throws, takedowns, escapes, etc.
Most traditional exercises (Squats, Bench press) take place in 1 dimension.
Not that these exercises are bad – it’s just that we need to supplement them with more.
So watch the video to make sure you’re not missing this crucial element in your workouts:

hahahaha..”alot of guys use medicine balls like a dumbbell..which is..totally stupid”..funny stuff eric..this was some real good information too..on an unrelated note i watched UFC 120 tryin to catch some of Claudes fight and it was never aired..what is up with that weakness?

if I was designing a program, would you recommend a transverse power move to follow a max strength set as seen in some complex conditioning programs? Or would you recommend a fighter do a complete conditioning kettlebell routine to include all planes of motion separate from the lifting? The primary goal I’m looking for is explosive power and conditioning. Thanks in advance

Maybe is is time to post a picture of youre Fiancee? We have seen enough of you… 8-). Joke a side, for those of us who have enough of youre super strenght training program and martial art training, … I do not see that I have time to do the Spetznas Kettelbell training progarm also, will it be possibel to get the Crazy 8 barbell program in the future?

You motivated me to add some transverse stuff today: Sideways medicine ball slams and some kicking and punching that required twisting either at the waist or hips. I’m gonna be sore tonight. A good kind of sore, but still…

The transverse plane definitely gets short shrift. I’d better work on that.
