Eric, watched the beginner series. I enjoyed it. I am a personal trainer. I use mostly all of those exercises with my clients. I am currently researching the requirements of designing a strength and conditioning program for mma. You do a great job of enlightening me. Is your text really the way to gain the proper info?
Danny
Gooday Eric. I am 35 years of age about 5’10 and between 240 & 245 lbs. Will ur e-book i have down loaded assist with weight loss?? I would like to take up MMA, just as a way of getting into shape again. As i no longer play rugby, as i travel often. But i know [as i have a competive spirit] that i will want to compete at an amatuer level after months or perhaps years of training. My initial goal is to loose at least 20-25 lbs and increase my strength and stamina. My question is. ‘ Am i to short and to old??” As my 30′s have not been good to me! LOL.

Hey Danny,
It will help, but the key is NUTRITION!
IF you’re super serious about losing weight, I’m launching my MMA Ripped program in mid to late April, make sure you’re on my newsletter list to get all the details.
Eric
Hey Codie – you’re gonna want to fight at 185 lbs, that would be the best – that way you can walk around at 200-205 lbs then make the cut no problem and be a great size still.
codie
ok so im 6’4 180lbs im quick and i train every day gonna love adding this to my workout but question im wanting to fight under 205 this sound like a good idea?
rohail

hey eric i was wondering if you could give me some advice. i’m 5’8 and weight 215 and want to lose the water weight and bulid muscle. i want to start traing and drop to about 185 which is where my body frame is comfortable at. any advice on diet, training, and anything else you have would be a big help to me. thanks

i started the advanced crazy 8′s last week and i left a pool of sweat all over the gym floor. its great, and with some bench presses and some shoulder stuff, in 2 weeks i’ve noticed a difference. Next i’m going to try the periodization training Eric suggests, and i look foward to getting stronger on the mats, rolling around. whilst im pretty strong naturally, ive been adverse to weights for years, but against guys with more tools in their box, but of equal strength, im left wanting….the crazy 8′s work, if done correctly, and i think 5 reps is more than enough for a super warm-up.
cheers!

Any combat arts base will help. But wrestling is one of the best bases to have to be a successful mma fighter.

Are the advanced body-weight circuits meant to be done every other day? If so, what do I do during the off days – work light, rest completely, other?
Please let me know.

Twice a week – other 2 days would be best to hit the weights… If you don’t have a program… I’ve got one! :)

Thanks Eric. I really appreciate your advice. I haven’t used your program yet. I just kind of found while I was on youtube a while back. And I’ve use several of your workouts routines. But, soon as I recover from my surgery I am definately going to go through your entire program.
Once again, I am so greatful for your advice.
Thanks Coach!

Hey Eric, I am 13 years old and I am in pretty good shape, with a big bone structure and what not. I want to join mma, and have been trying to find ways to train for it. I take brazlian jui justu (3x a week) and a class once a week that combines tae kwon do and han man do. I dont’ really have any access to a gym, but I have some work out equipment like a weight press, resistance bands, and dumbells. Is there any advice you can give me?
Carlos
Hi Eric, I’ve been a fan of yours for quite some time now. I really enjoy your online videos.
I am 40 yrs. young and in pretty good shape for my age. I’m a pro boxer, pro MMA fighter, practiced Judo for 20 years, BJJ & Submission Grappling for 8 years, you get the picture.
But, I have a problem. I have a torn meniscus in my left knee that requires surgery, whick is scheduled in about 6 weeks. I am still competitive and would like to continue fighting and competing after the surgery. The doctor said that will make a quick recovery if I strengthen my knee before going under the knife. That, I would probably be able to begin jogging within two months after.
So, I was wondering if you could give me some advice as to what would be the best way to strengthen my leg so that I can make the quickest recovery possible? What reps, or sets, or types of exercises can I do?
Thanks much for time.
CARLOS
Ps. I do not want my MMA career to end due to a surgery.
Eric Reply:

For a torn meniscus, you need to do the following exercises:
- Stiff-leg deadlifts
- Squats
- Some lunge variation
- Leg curls on the ball
Never train in bad form, never go to failure, keep your reps in the 8-12 zone. In fact, stop well short of failure, but do multiple sets (3-5).
Do each exercise 2x/week and that should give you a good base of strength to recover from.
Avoid jumping and explosive type stuff right now. Focus on building strength, not power.

Yes you can, as long as you leave at least 4-5 hours between sessions, you’ll be recovered enough…
Are you following my Ultimate MMA S&C Program?
If so, it’s designed to minimize SORENESS and FATIGUE… so you can get on with your MMA training effectively.

Hi Eric, thanx for the crazy 8s circuit. I just started learning muay thai, and I’m going to add this crazy 8s circuit in to my exercise. What do you recommend in order to fight better?

thanks Eric for this great opportunity to better myself this could’nt have come at a better time. I’ve started doing a bit of training with a mate of mine who has kickboxing experience fighting in the ring and i take a beating everytime mentally and physically my conditioning is poor im about 98kgs, 10 of that is probably around the mid-section less the gut. Im not expecting to be the next GSP or Eric Wong but to be a better and improved me and hopefully but surely CRAZY 8′S is the first stepping stone to my goals. what you have mention about all the mistakes or myths is what i was just thinking to myself at work tonight and you have answer all those question and more so once again thank you for sharing your knowledge with me!

Hi Eric,
Please give some more advice on how to do the correct breathing techniques with the crazy 8 excise program…
Thanks
Glen
Eric Reply:

#1 – Don’t hold your breath
#2 – Don’t worry about it too much as long as you’re not holding your breath.
Generally, when you’re exerting the hardest you breathe out. But during this workout, you might not have control of it because your breathing frequency will be elevated faster than the pace of the exercises.
Glen Reply:

Hi Eric,
Thanks for the breathing tip…much appreciated and looking forward to put it in practice at tonight’s workout.

Thanku so much…I’ve been doing the crazy eights for 2 weeks and already I’m stronger…I know my endurance will improve significantly…I’ll report back in a month.
Eric
Dude at your height and weight, I would really try to maximize my strength w/o putting on any muscle mass… the dudes you’ll be fighting will be little powerhouses and once they get past your reach, they’ll overpower you and just fatigue you due to their superior strength… You’ve got to make sure this doesn’t happen – so a lot of your focus must be on strength over conditioning… Conditioning probably isn’t a problem for ya – but I would say strength especially when grappling/wrestling would be a place where another guy could dominate you….
But then again I don’t know you and I’m just guessing based on your measurements….

i am a personal trainer who has incorporated some of these techniques in my teaching, if you dont feel like your gaining anything, its because your body has gotten used to the training, what you want to do is change it up usually every 2-3 weeks, you need to confuse your body so you will keep gaining the benefits from it. try taking a few of these techniques and doing them in reverse order, and you could also try a mix n match where you take a couple from the beginning and a couple from the advanced, but most important is to change your routine so your body doesnt have time to adapt by doing the same routine over and over again.
email me if you wish to know more or seek some advice

Hello,
I just started doing the crazy 8′s routine today, but just wanted to make sure I’m doing it right. I just had two questions, 1) How many circuits do I do on the days I’m in the gym? 2) Is this all I do during those sessions?

First, dont call it UFC… lol!!! Second, just put your mind to it, join a good gym or two, make sure to practice technique and dont ignore your ground game or in some cases stand up. The sport is too evolved to have some 2d fighter actually have much success. dieting and conditioning are the other corners of the triangle of MMA success.

Alright, first off, it’s called MMA (mixed martial arts) not UFC. UFC is an organization dealing in MMA and that’s all. There are many ways to get better, you can work on technique or conditioning. You could visit an MMA gym to get both. If you can’t find one, just work out at a normal gym and for technique you could watch videos online or something. By the way, I know this is random but this video is awesome and you really gotta see this.
